About The Chamber
The Sumter Co. Chamber of Commerce was established in 2008 to represent the needs of our business community. In accordance with our mission of promoting community growth and development we strive to improve the economic vitality and quality of life in our region. We hope to create a better understanding and appreciation of the importance of business people and concern for their problems. And we work to promote economic programs of civic, social and cultural nature which are designed to increase the functional and aesthetic values of the community.
The Sumter Co. Chamber of Commerce maintains an office to greet visitors and receive phone calls and emails to answer inquiries about our community and refer member businesses. We help assist entrepreneurs in forming new businesses from inception to growth stages of development. We promote our member businesses on our website, through social media and email campaigns. We hold annual networking opportunities for our members. We promote local retail through our #SupportSumter Buy Local campaign and through our annual Christmas Open House event. We provide statistical data to assist commercial and retail businesses located in your community. We promote tourism through annual events, regional partnerships and distribution of promotional material. We also assist businesses with ribbon cuttings, open houses, grand openings, and groundbreaking ceremonies to celebrate their success.
The Sumter Co. Chamber of Commerce hosts a number of annual events: The Annual Chamber Banquet is every January. It allows us to inform the community of the years accomplishments. It’s a great networking opportunity and our way of saying Thanks to all our members and sponsors. We promote and organize the Highway 11 Antique Alley every May to encourage tourism and give our economy a Spring boost. Not restricted to antiques, Antique Alley is a great time to spring clean your attic, host a church fundraiser, or find that perfect piece you’ve been looking for. Every September our Board of Directors rolls up their sleeves and assembles pancake plates for charitable patrons.
Not only is it a fun time for us to bond with each other and the community but the funds we raise help us to reach our goals of community and economic development. Monster March is a community Halloween event done in collaboration with the Ruby Pickens Tartt Public Library in Livingston. It is a fun safe event for even the tiniest of trick-or-treaters and a great way to bring young families together. Christmas Open House is every November in Downtown Livingston to encourage supporting local retail through the holiday season.
Sponsored by the City of Livingston, a raffle is held and gift certificates are awarded to 4 lucky winners. Christmas on the Square is also Downtown Livingston and a fun event for young families with hot chocolate, live music and dance from the UWA Band and even a visit from St. Nick himself. In addition to annual events we work on things like: We maintain our social media pages to promote our member businesses and inform our followers of happenings in Sumter Co.
We send out email campaigns promoting things like Job Opportunities and Ribbon Cuttings (join our mailing list below) We organize Ribbon Cuttings We promote tourism through regional partnerships, online media and hosting the aforementioned events. We grow locally minded consumers with our Buy Local #SupportSumter campaign. And we work continually with our partners on a variety of projects to strengthen the economy of Sumter Co., West Alabama and Black Belts Regions.
